Overview

Arch and porthole windows add softness to a room, contrasting with the straight lines of corners and rectangular windows and walls.

They can be fixed, thereby only letting in light, or, as is often the case with arch windows, sit atop a rectangular window that can be opened to let in breezes.

Many arch and pothole windows have fretwork added to them, visually dividing the windows into smaller panes.

They are often most striking as an exterior feature.
